Length: Approximately 239 Pages
For all of you romance junkies out there AFRAID OF LOVE by NANCY SILK is a great read! Paula is a 24 year-old woman that has suffered through a terrifyingly, traumatic experience when she was a young girl. This experience has left her afraid of love and intimacy with men. She enjoys platonic relationships with men, but the thought of intimacy makes her withdraw emotionally and physically ill.
After her trust is violated by a man she’s been dating, she runs to her sister at her family’s ranch to try to rebuild the relationship they once had. It’s there she meets Richard, the neighboring rancher that is used to having his way with women and trusts them about as much as Paula trusts men. I really got a kick out of this first meeting and laughed out loud when I read about it.
What I really appreciated about this book is the author didn’t rush this relationship. The reader doesn’t find out until the end if they are able to come together. I’m not going to spoil it for you and tell you if they can come to an agreement, but these are two people that are drawn to each other and have deep feelings for each other that grow and blossom through the book. Do they remain good, caring friends, or can they get past their fears and move into a full-blown relationship?
I know that I’ve mentioned in past reviews that when my mother was alive, we would read books and discuss them. She would have loved this book (I even had flashes of her reading it and smiling as I sat there with my Kindle) and this is one book I would love to discuss with her for hours. I’d like to thank Ms. Silk for bringing back those wonderful memories for me.
If you enjoy romance, you’ve just got to pick AFRAID OF LOVE by NANCY SILK up. You won’t be disappointed.
Paula Stillman is 24 years old, born and raised on her family's farm in Alberta Province, Canada. She is small in stature, but well built with very long, curly flaming red hair. After her parents are killed in a violent automobile accident, she chooses to leave the ranch and reside in Winnipeg allowing her older sister and her husband to manage the ranch. Paula is an artist and writer, single, living in an apartment with a roommate, Anne Brooks. Anne is kept busy as a nurse who resides with patients during their critical care needs. While Paula enjoys dating men, she prefers to keep her relationships platonic.
During one evening date with Leon Hunter, a successful businessman, he makes advances toward her to satisfy bets that he has made with other men. His actions relive moments of terror and fear in Paula, and she finds it necessary to return to the family ranch to rebuild relationships with her sister, Margaret, and her husband, Larry, and their two children.
In this romantic thriller, Paula becomes the prey of several men. Wherever she goes, she is followed to the point that she runs and hides. Except for one man who persists in prying her out of the shadows of her past that seem to control her life.
