The following is my January 31, 2014, 4 Star Review:

Book:  Satin Pleasures
Author: Karen Docter
Genre:  Contemporary Romance
Length:  Approximately 342 Pages

SATIN PLEASURES by KAREN DOCTER is the story of Dan and Tess.  A year ago, Dan almost died.  His life was consumed with getting ahead in a stressful position of power, money and a woman that cared more about her career than him.  He walked away from everything to live a more peaceful and stress-free life.

Tess is a career woman, driven by ghosts from the past.  She is obsessed with obtaining a promotion to the point of ignoring her basic needs such as eating, sleeping and any personal life whatsoever.  And then one fateful day, she meets Dan stuck on a bridge in a traffic jam in a way that had me smiling.

I really enjoyed SATIN PLEASURES by KAREN DOCTER.  The characters are strong, yet both flawed in their own ways, each having a very strong opinion on the opposite side of the spectrum about how people should live their lives.  The heat Ms. Docter created between the two and the love and insight they each had to offer makes the reader root for a coming together of the two vastly different worlds they are living in.  The storyline in this book is very believable, and I enjoyed the struggles of these two characters coming together and trying to find a place to meet safely in the middle.

If you enjoy contemporary romance, you will like this book.

Satin Pleasures Blurb:

BOOK REVIEW
Predator's Refuge

The following is my January 29, 2014, 5 Star Review:

Book:  Predator's Refuge
Series:  Gemini Island Shifters - Book 3
Author:  Rosanna Leo
Genre:  Erotic PNR/Fantasy (Shifter)
Length:  Approximately 187 Pages

PREDATOR'S REFUGE by ROSANNA LEO is the 3rd book in the GEMINI ISLAND SHIFTERS SERIES.  All of the novels in this series are stand-alone, but they are all so good, I recommend you start with the first in the series and read them in order so you don't miss a word of Ms. Leo's fabulous writing.

PREDATOR'S REFUGE is the story of Anton and Marci, and I'll just add that I think it is the sexiest so far in the Gemini Island Series.  Marci, the awkward lynx shifter that we briefly met in the previous Gemini Island books, has a bigger role on the island now.  She's coming into her own and trying to deal with her late blooming lynx.  Poor thing.  I felt her struggles with this lynx in need.

Anton, a tiger shifter in all his male glory, emerges onto Gemini Island as a new employee with a bang.  He has a very masculine attitude (and the body of a God, I might add), tinged with the pain of his past that draws Marci's maturing lynx to him the instant she lays her eyes on him, and the scent of Marci's lynx just about drives Anton and his tiger mad with desire.

If you enjoy shifter books, you must pick up some of Ms. Leo's work to read.  You won't be able to put them down.  I always set aside a whole day to read when I've got one of Ms. Leo's books because I know when I open it up, I'm not going to be able to put it down.  No distractions.  No chores.  Just me and her wonderful characters taking a trip into Ms. Leo's imagination.  It doesn't get much better than that.

This is the 6th book I've read by Ms. Leo and I just love her writing style.  Do yourself a favor and pick this magical book up.  I highly recommend it.

Predator's Refuge, Gemini Island Shifters Series, Book 3 Blurb:
Lynx shifter Marci Lennox has worked at the shifter-friendly Ursa Fishing Lodge and Resort all her adult life. It’s more a home to her than a job. When her boss goes on vacation, putting her in charge, Marci is thrilled. Finally a chance to prove she has the mettle to run a resort.

Her confidence is shaken when new employee Anton Gaspar appears. One look at the mysterious tiger shifter spells trouble for Marci and for her sex-crazed lynx. Anton is judgmental, condescending, and a little misogynistic. Unfortunately, Marci’s lynx thinks his tiger is more delicious than an oversized bag of Maltesers.

It becomes difficult for Marci to remain neutral near Anton, especially when she learns of his troubling past and unusual family circumstances. However, when dangerous incidents occur on the resort, the lynx woman and tiger man join forces to combat the threat to the lodge and its guests.

Harder still is the quest to combat their explosive feelings for one another. As they explore their mutual passion, they realize the danger at the resort is more insidious than they ever envisioned. Their dreams, their love, and their very lives are at stake.

Sandy's Spotlight
BOOK REVIEW
Sister Hoods
by
P.L. Blair

The following is my January 26, 2014, 5 Star Review:

Book:  Sister Hoods
Series:  Portals - Book 4
Author:  P.L. Blair
Genre:  Fantasy/Crime Drama
Length:  Approximately 292 Pages

P.L. BLAIR has done it again with her fourth novel in the Portals Series, SISTER HOODS.

I'd like to start this review out by stating that I am a true lover of fantasy novels.  One reason for that is the Portals Series and the very imaginative author, P.L. Blair.  One of the very first fantasy novels I ever read was the first book in the Portals Series, Shadow Path, and I was hooked from the very first paragraph.

I was thrilled to receive Sister Hoods for review and not unlike the first book in the series, I was hooked from the very first page.  I've come to know the characters in this series and bonded with them.

The Portals Series crosses genres flawlessly from fantasy to crime drama, with characters that include all of those in our imaginations from wizards, both good and evil, nymphs, satyrs, unicorns and humans (just to name a few), all interacting together on the Texas coast in our world and the other side of the Portal to the other world.

Because I've come to really care about the characters in this series, Sister Hoods includes edge of your seat action with battles that are heart-stopping page-turners.  Death is around every corner, and not just your average death in crime dramas, but death and torture by creatures such as powerful evil wizards and a nasty wyvern, a two-legged winged dragon that is part serpent with a barbed poisonous tail.

For readers, the Portals Series crosses all ages and is a good read from YA to mature audiences.  The artistry and creativity that P.L. Blair writes these novels has the reader on a journey that will take them on an escape from reality and leave them reeling from the journey.  For those of you that love to get lost in a book, Sister Hoods, as well as any of the Portals Series books, by P.L. Blair is perfect for you.  I highly recommend all of the books in the Portals Series.

Soul Mates Blurb:

Pulled Back Through Time, Shandelle Is Caught Between An Enduring Love And A Wizard’s Magic

In the beginning of time, one soul splits into two. Lifetime after lifetime, the two souls are reborn and seek to reunite. Like a beacon of light from heaven above, their light shines for each other. Without the other, there is only darkness. A wonderful blessing that can only come from a deeply-bonded love, the sharing of one soul can also be a black curse if something disrupts the moment of their coming together.

Ireland 1323 - Donovan, chieftain of the Clan O'Brien, has unsuccessfully searched his entire adult life, to the detriment of his clan and all those around him, for that elusive possession that will bring his soul peace. He doesn't know what it is, but he will give up everything to find it. One day, he is summoned by the Wizard and told the secret of his obsession—his soul mate. She is no longer living in his time, but there is a way to bring her back to him.

Phoenix 2013 - Shandelle and Ian are embarking on their new life together. She is everything Ian ever wanted but never realized he needed before he met her. Shandelle is a generous soul who lives to make Ian and everyone around her happy. Unfortunately for them both, evil is stalking them. The blood bond duty of a close friend brings betrayal and evil into their lives. How were they to know that the death of a six-year-old girl in the early fourteenth century could have such grave consequences on their lives today?
