Markee, I'm so glad to have you on the book discussion! I'd love to hear how you came up with the character of Cameo. Did you fashion her after someone you know? I love her name. How did you come up with that?

Thank you for having me here, Sandy!!! This is fun!

OK...I was listening to the radio one day and this woman was talking about her granddaughter, named Cameo. I thought, what a cool name for a character! I didn't really fashion her after anyone I know, but I wish I met Prince Reginald and was in her place. I'd have really put the queen in her place and would've had fun doing it. I wish Charmania really existed. I'd LOVE to go there, myself. LOL!

Hi Markee and Sandy. Markee congrats on your novel and for appearing on Sandy's spotlight! It is a lot of fun, and great exposure as Sandy will be paying it forward to many other blog spots. I haven't read your book yet. I haven't hardly read anything at all! Too busy writing and promoting, but I will try and do so as soon as possible, ok? Love, Nel

Markee, I love the name Cameo. Thank goodness I'm past the child bearing years, but my daughter aren't! I think I'm going to plant a seed about that name.

I absolutely fell in love with your description of the island of Charmania. How on earth did you come up with some of those bizarre rules the Queen had established for the people of the island? Never in my wildest dreams would many of them have even crossed my mind. One thing I did really love about the island was the plump women! LOL If only we could get away with that here.

Nel, It's so good to see you here! I hope you can stop back by. You'll absolutely love this book when you get a chance to read it.

Plump women were happy...and made the men happy. LOLOL! I just let my mind wander, wondering what would be the COOLEST place to live in the world...with one problem. An overbearing queen. I also liked the dolphins who kept splashing poor Cameo. LOL!

I really like that name. It's so different, and easy to spell. :)

Thanks, Sandy!

Markee, Let's talk about the Queen. I thought that you came up with the perfect balance with Cameo's reaction to her snipes at her children at dinner. It would have been really easy to over write Cameo's response. I thought you did it beautifully.

Can you walk us through working on that scene? Did you have to do a lot of re-writes on it to get it just right; or did it just come to you? I thought a lot about what a difficult scene that must have been to write when I was reading it because even though the queen, I thought, was being really cruel, Cameo was facing off with her (the queen) and because she was facing off with the queen, she couldn't be too vicious (although she certainly deserved it).

I hope that question made sense.

Sure did make sense!

Actually, I wrote that scene in one night, if I remember correctly. It wasn't easy, because Cameo had to take the high road. The queen was modeled after someone in my family, so that was kind of easy...I just put my family member in the queen's place. LOL! But Cameo had to be nice. I've had personal experience of being in Cameo's place, and have learned a lot about turning a conversation around, if need be. That's what Cameo tried to do, but almost failed.

If she would've left, the entire family would've been in disarray. Reggie would've been pulled, possibly siding with Cameo, and the country would've fallen apart, with no heir apparent. The king recognized this, and had to bring them back together, not only for the good of his family but for the good of the country.

That queen...she had no idea what she was potentially doing to her family and her country. But if you notice, Cameo made the queen realize what gems she had in her adult children, and pulled them back together. Cameo is a peace maker, also in her own family, even though her siblings wanted nothing to do with her. That truly upset her, because she lost her own family when things happened in Vermont and couldn't see another family ripped apart by crises.

Markee,

The Queen was modeled after someone in your family? Wow! That's tough. I guess we all have someone similar to her in our family, but she is a pistol (a loaded pistol).

It was nice to see the King jump in and take Cameo's position against the Queen and have his eyes opened about what had happened to his family dynamic right under his nose.

Hi Markee,

I have loved your other books I've read so will definitely download this one to read. Thanks so much! You are so creative - I like the story line for Cameo Appearance. Do you have a favorite character? I know it's a tough question because you have several books. Which character was the most fun to write?

Thank you so much for stopping by, Diane!!!

Favorite character? In this one, I just LOVE Reggie. He's a hoot. I think I have a favorite in every book. The queen was fun to write, too, as well as the two women who help Cameo once she gets to Charmania.

Overall, though, for all my books, I have to say Kes is my favorite ('Get Me Out of Africa' and 'Voo Do Love Me') because she's a LOT like what I want to be. Oh, if I were just younger, thinner, and tougher. LOL! I already have the curmudgeon thing down pat, after dealing with my kids' emotional roller coasters. LOLOL!!!

Thank you so much for stopping by! Come on back! :)
