Book:  The Day Bailey Devlin’s Horoscope Came True
Series: Bailey Devlin – Book 1
Author: Rebecca Forster
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Length: 191 Pages

Bailey Devlin has led a difficult life.  She’s grown up in a single-parent home with a mother who dreams of her long-gone husband.  When Bailey’s old enough to be on her own, her mother takes off to look for the man that had walked out all those years ago.
Bailey works hard to fulfill her dream of becoming a lawyer.  Through it all, she’s alone with her dreams of some day having it all.  She faithfully reads her horoscope each day hoping for some good news.  One day, it talks of opening her door to a man that will change her life.  When the knock on the door finally comes, it’s not quite what she’s expecting.
THE DAY BAILEY DEVLIN’S HOROSCOPE CAME TRUE by REBECCA FORSTER is written in first person.  It’s really well done and allows the reader to get a good insight into the main character.  I have to say, my heart went out to her.  She’s worked so very hard her entire life to make something of herself and when she gets a surprise visitor, her world is turned upside down.
Much of this book was funny.  Parts were so funny that I had to put the book down because I was laughing so hard I cried.  Always in the background, though, was the reality of heartache.
I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I’ve read by Ms. Forster and this book was no exception.  This is a fast, fun read and I highly recommend it.

He dozed and dreamed of Flora in the emerald gown again. Now her waist-length hair matched the deep red color of the large ruby hanging from a gold chain. The ruby and gold glinted in shards of green light flashing around her and in her eyes. How lovely she appeared, with flawless white skin, ruby red hair, and eyes to match the emerald gown. Gavin’s heart near burst with her beauty. While he watched, Flora removed the ruby from her neck, dipped the stone three times in a crystal goblet of clear water. The water turned red as the ruby.
She held the goblet out to him. “Take this and drink. The ruby’s water will drive the evil away and make you weel.”
“Aye. I desire to be well.” Gavin reached for the beautiful crystal chalice now filled with red water.
Just as his hand touched the chalice, a large boot kicked his foot. Flora disappeared with the red, healing water. Gavin’s eyes popped open. He remained still, grabbing the sgian dubh from his boot with one hand and the pistol from his belt with the other.

When She Knows: Franconia Notch Trilogy Book One by Jessie Clever
His latest problem is her newest assignment.

Shannon Wynter has it all figured it. Abandoned by her mother and left to care for her agoraphobic father, Shannon focuses on building her career as a journalist to the detriment of all else including her love life.

Ian Darke has his own problems. Battling past failures, Ian sets his eyes on launching a new factory for his father’s defense firm. But it’s the very father he failed that will do anything to sabotage Ian’s progress.

And when Shannon follows an anonymous tip that leads her to Ian’s factory door, the last thing she expects to discover is what she already knows.

"But fraud for a defense contractor is serious.  You don't want to defend your reputation as a provider to our armed forces?"
It took him a minute to realize that clicking noise was her following him over the pavement.  He spun around, his arms coming up once more to gesture his acquiescence, only she was standing too close, and instead of gesturing with authority, he ran into her, his arms striking her shoulders and knocking her against him.
He froze, feeling the length of her body collide with his, the scent of her shampoo invade his senses, her breath fall across the exposed skin above his shirt collar.  He felt her hesitation, the hitch in her breath, before she shoved against him, pushing herself away.
"I'm very sorry," he said, his hands moving uselessly in front of him as if to help her regain her balance.
She stood with her pad held against her chest like some sort of shield, and he felt his anger drain into annoyance.
"I'm sorry," he repeated, much more carefully, "I don't have a comment, and I need to get back to work.  Please excuse me."
He turned slowly this time, resuming his walk to the loading dock door.
"What is it that you're using this factory for, Mr. Darke?"
He didn't answer.  No matter how much he wanted to turn around and rail about his stupid brother's stupid decisions, he did not.  He kept walking.
"Fraud, I mean, come on, that's-"
And then he did turn.
"If you want a comment, you can call our PR department."
"Great!" she said, and he almost smiled at her enthusiasm as she pulled up a clean page of her notebook.  "What's the phone number?"
He shook his head at her and let his feet carry him back to where she stood on the pavement, notebook poised for the phone number.
"Shannon, was it?" he said when he was close.
He had felt her breath hitch when she had bumped into him, and now he dared to step a little closer than politeness would have dictated.  He saw it again, the slight hitch in her chest, and he felt a smile spread over his face.  He leaned in, dropping his voice to a soft, rich level.
"Have you heard of the Internet, Shannon?"
"Yes," she whispered softly, her eyes locked on his.
"Use it," he said and walked away, leaving her standing in the parking lot, her pen completely still.

a housefly in autumn
scott nagele

Book:  A Housefly in Autumn
Author:  Scott Nagele
Genre:  YA/Historical Fiction
Length:  Approximately 198 Pages

A HOUSEFLY IN AUTUMN by SCOTT NAGELE is listed as a YA, but this book is for the young, the old and everyone in between.  The setting is 19th century Europe and starts out with a gifted young writer with endless possibilities for the future.  In one brief heroic moment, his dreams are shattered and the future no longer holds the endless possibilities he was once afforded. The message in this book is so important, everyone should be able to relate to it.

I must admit that I read a lot of books.  I enjoy many different genres, styles of writing and author’s imaginations.  I’m lucky because when I read a book, no matter when or where it takes place, the author’s words transport me into their world.  Sometimes this is a good thing.  Sometimes it’s not so good. In A HOUSEFLY IN AUTUMN, the character of Anders Christiansen reached out of the pages, grabbed me by the throat and made me fall in love with him, care about him and feel his humble pain.

When I first picked this book up, I didn’t stop reading until I was 22% into the book.  I only stopped there, because my vision is bad and my eyes couldn’t see the words on the page any longer.  My first update on Goodreads was, “What a beautifully sad start.”  Mr. Nagele made me feel the glory in achievement, as well as the pain and grief of losing something so very important to the main character, Anders.  Mr. Nagele’s writing throughout the book was flawless and took me back to that simpler time in history and helped me become a part of the time and life of the main character.

You’re going to need two things readily available when you get to the end of this book; a box of tissues and a quiet place to read where people won’t look at you weird because you are crying so hard and making faces trying to keep your eyes clear enough to read. When you get to that point in the book, it will not cross your mind to put the book down long enough to wipe your face, blow your nose and dry your tears. You just won’t want to take the time away from the book to do any of that.

A HOUSEFLY IN AUTUMN by SCOTT NAGELE made it deep into the selection process of the 2012 ABNA (Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award) process and rightly so.  This book is an amazing read.

Like most readers, I have my favorites in genres, those books that are my go-to books that I read and re-read many times.  I also gift those books to friends and family members.  In that vein, I’d like to say that A HOUSEFLY IN AUTUMN is a book that everyone would enjoy.  To go farther, I think that if you only purchased one book this year, this should be the one.

A HOUSEFLY IN AUTUMN by SCOTT NAGELE is a book I won’t soon forget and one that I can promise you, I will be reading again.  This book surpassed any expectations I had when I opened the first page and quickly soared to my favorite Historical Fiction novel I’ve ever read.  The writing was impeccable and I fell head over heels in love with the characters. As a reader, I’m thrilled this gem of a book crossed my Kindle.

This book reached out and touched my heart and more importantly, made me feel.

At 17, Anders Christiansen was a young man overflowing with potential. All his teachers believed he was destined to blossom into a leading man of letters, enjoying a life of rich rewards.

That was before the accident.

Now, Anders's great talent lies fallow. He can't produce the complex ideas he once did. His thoughts are slow and his words simple. The world holds little promise for him anymore.

Struggling to build a meaningful life out of the wreckage of his dreams, Anders learns the value of simple treasures. Loyalty, devotion, and even sacrifice hold rewards of their own to renew hope after tragedy. Love can cause hurt, but he who gives love when he hurts the most will reap a joy outweighing the pain.

Anders gives meaning to his life in the way he spends it. He will face grave danger to spare those he loves, and though his gifts be diminished, he will share them freely with even the humblest of children. Though never sought, Anders's reward is immense and enduring, showing the millions of reasons to go on sharing even the simplest of gifts.

book 6 in the Gemini island shifters series
rosanna leo

Book: Predator’s Trinity
Series:  Gemini Island Shifters – Book 6
Author:  Rosanna Leo
Genre: PNR – Shifter (M/M/F)
Length: Approximately 205 Pages

PREDATOR’S TRINITY by Rosanna Leo is Percy, Byron and Suzan’s story.  This is Book 6 in the Gemini Island Shifters Series, but it is stand alone so if you haven’t had a chance to read the rest of the books in the series, you won’t have a problem following this story.  This happens to be my favorite shifter series though, so I highly recommend all of the books.

August Crane, a psychopathic wolf shifter, is obsessed with Suzan, an empath who has had to distance herself from people due to the overwhelming emotions that flow through her.  Percy and Byron, twin Jaguar shifters, have a sordid history with Crane, so when he abducts Suzan, they know they must do everything in their power to save her.

The Gemini Island Shifter Series is my go-to shifter books.  I recommend this series to anyone looking for a new set of shifter books.  It’s that good.  It’s the shifter series that I wait on pins and needles for new books to come out and read them as soon as they are released.  It’s also a series that I’ve re-read a few times as I wait for my fix for a new book in the series to come out. Ms. Leo has also written another shifter series that I can’t get enough of, The Orkney Silkies.

All of her shifters are beautiful, damaged in some way and needing the hand of a good, strong woman to straighten them out.   As I read Ms. Leo’s books, I’m taken on a journey to different places with interesting people that I learn to either love or hate.  I feel their emotions, their pain and their joy.

If you like romance, you need to pick these books up.  If you like shifters, you need to pick these books up.  If you like big, strong, HOT alpha males, you’ll find yourself flipping through the pages of Ms. Leo’s books so fast that before you know it, you’ve been drawn into their story and have been swept away from anything pressing such as laundry, dirty dishes or even preparing supper and you won’t even feel the slightest bit guilty.  I promise.

Librarian Suzan Marsh is an empath and has always felt assaulted by the feelings of others. She has had to distance herself from the people in her life, raising a mental barrier to ward off unwanted emotions. When wolf shifter August Crane abducts her, he breaks through the walls she constructed, forcing her to accept a frightening new truth.

Jaguar shifter twins Percy and Byron Moon are familiar with the evil ways of August Crane. Because of him, their childhood was destroyed. Because of him, their way of life at the peaceful Ursa Fishing Lodge and Resort is threatened. And they won’t rest until he is dead.

When Crane drags Suzan into his cult and decides to make her his “concubine,” Percy and Byron know they must save the human woman. Their connection to her is strong and they cannot deny the dream they always held close. That they could share a woman and make her their mate.

But even after rescuing Suzan, none of them are free from Crane’s clutches. The wolf shifter has plans, ones that involve the demise of every shape shifter at the Ursa Resort. Not only must Percy and Byron keep Suzan safe, they must convince her to accept them both. In order to stop Crane from hurting everyone they love, they must learn to fight together.

5 Stars

Book:  Growl (Audio version)
Narrated by: Andrea Emmes
Author:  Ashley Fontainne
Genre:  Fantasy/Paranormal
Length:  7 Hours, 46 Minutes

Let me just start out by saying that GROWL is different than any book I’ve read by ASHLEY FONTAINNE.  I love it when authors take chances and let loose with something hidden in the far recesses of their imagination.  It’s what keeps me hooked.

As usual, the writing in GROWL is perfection.  The words came alive listening to the narrator.  It’s terrifying.  It’s exciting. It’s sad.  It’s good versus evil in the most black and white, in your face way.

I highly recommend this read!

Love, vengeance, attempted murder, and a bomb...No reason to panic.

When a medical robot insists he's having a heart attack, Marlee Evans, a pragmatic maintenance technician, has every reason to panic. There's a bomb inside him.  Since Marlee can't risk the bomber discovering she's found the device, her only option is to kidnap Deacon Black, an unflappable bomb expert, and secretly convince him to disarm it.  Things go slightly awry when Deacon sets a trap for someone who is trying to kill him, and inadvertently captures Marlee instead.  Instantly intrigued by her refreshingly forthright and gutsy attitude, he's smitten.  Unfortunately for Deacon, Marlee recently hardened her heart and swore off men, especially handsome ones with boy-next-door grins.  But as Marlee and Deacon attempt to identify and prevent the bomber from detonating the device, they discover that love may be the most explosive force of all.

By Catherine E. McLean @ 2015

The bomb. Right. Dismantle the bomb. In this lift? No, that was insane. “Marlene, if the bomb goes off accidentally—”

“It’ll blow the station to kingdom come?”

He nodded.

     “Not to worry.”

She said that with such nonchalance that he found himself speechless. He cleared his throat. “Why not? Did you snatch the portable Bomb Disposal Unit, too?”

 “What’s better than a BDU?”

“Garbage incinerators.”

“What?” He glanced out into the darkness beyond the lift.

Giant machinery stood silhouetted and veiled in shadows. “Where are we?”

“Deck forty-three, Ring D zero three. Relax. Don’t panic.  They once accidentally incinerated a torpedo in number four, over yonder.”

She pointed to the left. “Nobody heard or felt it explode, and there wasn’t even a drail’s worth of damage done to the incinerator, or anything else.”

            “I don’t believe you.”

“It happened three years ago. I was there, a deck above.

Never mind.”

Henry manipulated his finger appendage, grabbing and briefly tugging the shirt sleeve of Deacon’s good arm. “Marlee would never lie about anything so important.”

“Does she lie about unimportant things?” He instantly regretted his caustic remark.

“I do not know.” Henry spun sideways, facing Marlee. “Do you lie about unimportant things, Marlee?”

“I have been known to tell a white lie now and then to spare someone’s feelings, but on the whole—” She looked away from Henry.

As her blacker than black eyes met his gaze, Deacon felt pinned to the wall.
